Abstract
A razor or similar thin, sharp-edged, blade is made from a steel comprising:- <TABS:1107233/C6-C7/1> the balance, apart from impurities (e.g. P, N and S), being iron, the alloying elements being so proportioned that:- <FORM:1107233/C6-C7/1> The steel may be degassed under vacuum, cast into a liquid cooled mould, hot rolled, cold rolled, heated to 1000 DEG -1150 DEG C., cooled to room temperature or below, optionally tempered at 100 DEG -450 DEG C. (e.g. in H2) and then ground to form the cutting edge. The completed strip may then be optionally tempered at 250 DEG -450 DEG C. and the cutting edge coated with a fluocarbon polymer.
