Abstract

1,108,212. Wrapping-machines. LERNER MACHINE CO. Ltd. 20 April, 1967 [6 May. 1966]. No. 20264/66. Heading B8C. In wrapping apparatus of the kind in which an article to be wrapped is pushed into a curtain formed by webs above and below its path, the webs being joined by heat sealing jaws in front of the article, in the process of completing the wrap around a previous article, the jaws also severing the webs behind the previous article, air blast nozzles are provided to billow the curtain in front of the article and cool the weld. In one form, a cranked duct 30 supplies air through nozzles 17, 18 and a further duct 31 assists in releasing the web from the lower sealing jaw 11 as well as cooling the weld. In another embodiment, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), separate ducts, adjustable in position on either side of the article path, replace the duct 30, the duct 31 being optional.
