Abstract

Etherified aminotriazine resins which are insoluble in water but soluble in organic media are prepared by condensing 1 mol. of one or more compounds of formula <FORM:1107215/C3/1> in which R is NH2 or NH2 substituted by alkyl or aryl radicals or is an alkyl, aryl or acyl radical with 3 to 5.8 moles of HCHO first at pH 7 to 12 and then under acid conditions at pH 4 to 6 in the presence of organic media and a C1- 5 aliphatic alcohol. Organic media are defined as C1- 5 aliphatic alcohols, especially MeOH which may be used in at least 7% by weight of the reaction mixture, ketones (e.g. acetone, methyl ethyl ketone) or ethers (e.g. dioxane or tetrahydrofuran). Cyclic dehydration may be carried out in such a way that 20-70% by weight of the water is removed based on 42% by weight HCHO. Part (e.g. up to 30% by weight) of the aminotriazine may be replaced by urea or its derivatives. Uses.-As stoving lacquers in combination with oil modified alkyd resins and pigments.
