Abstract
A process for obtaining new 1,3-dioxancarboxylic acids of the general formula ** (See formula) ** in which R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, R2 an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical, R3 and R4, hydrogen atoms or alcohol radicals, R5 an alkyl, aryl or lower aralkyl radical, and n an integer from 1 to 2, as well as its alkaline salts, characterized in that a diol of the formula ** (See formula) ** wherein the radicals R1, R2, R3, and R4 have the meanings indicated above, is reacted with an ester of ketonic acid of the formula R5-CO-(CH2)nCOOR6 III wherein R5 and n have the meanings indicated above, while R6 represents a lower alkyl radical, or the acetal of said ester of ketonic acid, using the known methods, preferably in an organic solvent, at the boiling point of the the same, and preferably in the presence of an acidic condensation agent, after which the ester formed is saponified and, optionally, the carboxylic acid thus produced is transformed into its alkaline salt.
