Abstract

[Also in Division E1] In a rail to sleeper fastening of the type where a resilient metal fastening member passes through an upward projection from the sleeper and bears on the top of the rail flange, such fastening being used each side of each rail, first and second portions of insulating material are positioned between the edge of the rail base and the projection and between the top of the rail base and the fastening member respectively and a third portion of insulating material between the rail and the sleeper, and a metallic filler is disposed between the first portion of insulation and either the projection or the rail base. The metallic filler 10 has varying thicknesses to allow for rail spread at curves and inequalities of projection spacing. The first and second portions of insulation 11 may be bonded or mechanically located to the metallic filler 12 which may have lugs 13 engaging the projection to prevent endwise movement.
