Abstract

Mechanical telegraphs; mine signals. - A s i g - nalling device for mines comprises a dial w i t h three pointers A, B, C, and indicationdisks in plates E, F, the latter being raised into position by the coupling rods J, U, Q, Fig. 2, connected therewith and operated from the various levels, each rod, when moved, raising the draw-rod G. A pawl K on the rod G engages with a ratchet-wheel H carrying the pointer B, another ratchetwheel carrying the pointer A being mounted on a sleeve working frictionally on the shaft connecting wheel H and pointer B. The pointer C is actuated by a pawl on the pointer B engaging a pin X on a disk controlling the pointer C, being turned out of sight as the pointer B moves outwardly, and brought back till a spring Z drops into a notch C' on the disk, when the pointer B returns. After the first movement outward of both pointers A, B, the pointer A is kept in position by a lever N engaging its ratchet-wheel. On the second outward movement of pointer B, (this time to its own indication), the engine is started and, releasing levers M, N, allows the pointers A, B to drop back to zero, pointer A in doing so striking a kicker V by which pointer C is turned out of sight. Simultaneously a kicker P on the wheel H strikes a lever 0 which allows the indication disks to fall out of sight. An automatic stop D, Fig. 4, comes into operation for repair work in the shaft. When the pointers A, B come to the indication " 10 " on the dial, the pointer A snaps past a depressible pin Y and is retained, but the pointer B can return under the influence of its time limit cylinder I. When the pointer A is moved to the indication " 11 " it engages the prong E<1> of the stop D, the effect of which is to remove the obstruction of the pin Y, so that, when the engine starts, the pointer A can return to zero, setting stop D in its original position by contact with the prong F' in passing.
