Periodic-counter speed indicators.-In a speed indicator of the periodic-counter type having a clutch and detents for ratchet-wheels 16, 19 operating the pointer 3, which are controlled by a clock-rotated cam mechanism, this mechanism is driven by a spring motor which is regulated by a clock mechanism. The clutch consists of the adjacent disks 14, 15, the disk 14 forming part of a spring-controlled sleeve slidable on the shaft 20 and rotated by the gearing 10 from the engine. The clutch sleeve is disengaged by a triangular cam 30 driven by the spring motor under the control of a clockgoverned escapement. Rotating with the cam is a disk 40 provided with pins 41 adapted to engage arms 26, 28 connected with the detents 21, 22 in order to release the ratchet-wheels at the necessary times. When the speed is excessive, a pin 43 on the disk 15 connected by a sleeve with the ratchet-wheel 16 engages an arm 44 and causes the pivoted rod 47 to force the clutch to disengage.
