Abstract

28,350. Baird & Son, A., and Baird, M. B. Dec. 9. Bell and gong signals.-A bell signal for mines, railways, &c. comprises a ratchet-wheel h which is hollow and contains a coil-spring, and a striker block d pivoted on the same pivot pin n as the ratchet-wheel. The block d carries a bell hammer b, and a wiper f engaged by the pawl e on the gong wheel or disk x when this is turned by the signaller. The wiper f is connected with a pawl g driving the ratchet-wheel h, which carries a pointer k to indicate the number of times the bell has been struck. The check-pawl lever j has two fingers, one i of which engages the ratchet teeth, while the other serves to disengage the pawl g when the ratchet-wheel is released by operating the lever j.
