Abstract
110,172. Heyes, W. A., Keyes, L. O., and Heyes, A. V. June 17, 1916. Mechanical telegraphs; mine signals.-In stepby-step signalling-apparatus for use in mines, &c., a catch is provided which holds the actuating device positively out of engagement with the ratchet-wheel until the indicator pointer has returned to zero and released the catch, to ensure cancellation of one signal before the next is registered. As described, the signal ratchet-wheel on the indicator spindle 1 is advanced step by step by a pawl 11 pivoted to an arm 2 mounted to oscillate about the spindle 1, being moved in one direction by the core 32 of a solenoid 3 energized at each signal impulse, and in the other direction by a spring (not shown). The spindle is retained by a detent 15 pivoted at 37 and having an arm 5 serving as the armature of a release magnet 4 which is energized by known means under control of the engine to cancel a signal when being complied with. The pawl 11 is raised at the same time by a finger 13 engaged by a pin 14. The arm 2 has a pin 33 engaging a collar 34 on a rod 35 attached to the piston of a dash-pot 8 and raised with the signal impulses. A dog 18 pivoted on the detent 15 also is engaged by the collar during the upward movement so that the pawls 11, 15 are disengaged by the first impulse of a signal. The pawls are held out of engagement by a lever 24 pivoted at 25 and moved by a spring, (not shown), so that the upper end engages under a pin 27 on the detent 15 until released by a finger 22 on the spindle 1 striking a pin 23 when the spindle has returned to the zero position. Contacts, (not shown), are provided in series with the magnet 4, and are opened by a second finger, (not shown), on the spindle 1 so that the magnet is de-energized when a signal is cancelled. A cautionary signal is given when a pause is made at a predetermined signal indication, by contacts, (not shown), closed by the pointer when at the predetermined position, and contacts 10 in series therewith closed by a collar 9 on descent of the rod 35.
