Abstract

110,522. Armangue, J. M. July 5, 1917. Expanding pulleys.-In variable-speed gearing of the kind in which one or both flanges of an expanding- pulley are divided into two independently movable parts, the inner part 8 has a series of holes containing balls 14 adapted to engage recesses 11, 12 in a fixed member 6 and in the outer part 9, respectively. Keys 17 carried by the part 9 engage slots 18 in the part 8. The outer member 9 is actuated by a rod 15 and pin 16 and moves freely to the left from the position shown but carries with it the part 8 when it is moved to the right. When both flanges are divided, the opposing flanges move simultaneously so that the belt keeps its central position.
