Abstract

1,102,080. Aircraft undercarriages. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (OPERATING) Ltd. 9 Sept., 1966 [10 Sept., 1965], No. 38847/65. Heading B7G. A retractable aircraft undercarriage comprises a main leg 1 pivoted at one end to the aircraft at AA and at the other end carrying a spigot 10 which is rotatable about an axis BB which intersects an axis CC of a cylindrical outer face 11 of the spigot on which is mounted an arm 12 carrying a landing wheel 13. Partial rotation of the spigot 10 tilts the landing wheel 13 to the position shown in broken lines on Fig. 2. The spigot 10 may have an integral arm 18 turned by linkage 19, 20, 21, 23 when the leg 1 is raised. This may be done by extending a jack 7 causing a link 2, 3 to fold at its joint 4. The support system for the wheel 13 may incorporate a shock-absorber 15 and the arm 12 and wheel 13 may be replaced by, for example, two or more landing wheels mounted in tandem on a bogie beam rotatable about the axis CC of the spigot 10.
