Abstract

1,101,083. Portable engines; engine covers. VOKES Ltd. 16 Oct., 1964 [22 Oct., 1963], No. 41649/63. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F1] A power plant comprising a machine 1, Fig. 2, e.g. an electric generator or compressor, driven by an I.C. engine 2, is housed in a chamber 6 lined with sound absorbing material and divided into two compartments A, B, separated by a partition 8, the chamber B forming an air inlet silencer for the air used for the engine intake and cooling air and the chamber A containing an exhaust silencer 14. The plant is resiliently mounted on a base 4 on which the member 6 is hinged for access to the plant. The air is drawn in by the engine fan through an opening 10 covered by a baffle 11 and after flowing over the device 1 and through opening 12 to the engine 2, it escapes through a silencing passage 15 in the base 4. The engine exhaust gases pass to a silencer 14 and then mix with the air in the passage 15. A fuel tank 9 may be built into the partition 8. In Fig. 3, a separate fan 17 is provided in the partition 8 to supplement the engine fan, the exhaust gases from silencer 14 being mixed with the cooling air in a chamber C connected to the outlet passage 15. In a watercooled engine the radiator is situated in the partition 20.
