Abstract

1412216 Cooling IC engines; engine casings B KIRSCH 4 Jan 1973 618/73 Heading F1B The space between the two walls 1 and 2 of a housing for an air-cooled I.C. engine driving an electric generator or air compressor defines a cooling air passage 3, 4. The air inlet part 3 of the passage contains a combustion air intake pipe 5 and the air outlet part 4 an engine exhaust gas pipe 8. The engine and generator may be mounted in respective chambers 12 and 13 in the housing separated by a partition 11. Respective inlet and outlet opening 6, 6a and 7, 7a connect the chambers to the passage parts. An oil-bath filter 14 may be located in the pipe 5. The inlet pipe opening 9 may be co-planar with the passage opening 10, Fig. 1 (not shown). The air passage may have a sound-absorbing lining, contain flowdeflecting ribs or constrictions and define a serpentine flow-path.
