Abstract

Polymers containing from 40 to 80% by weight of sulphur are obtained by heating a mixture of elemental sulphur and a halogensubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon at 225 DEG to 350 DEG C. so that hydrogen halide is evolved. In examples polymers are obtained by heating mixtures of sulphur with monochlorobenzene, with o-dichlorobenzene and with p-dichlorobenzene.
