Abstract

1,099,693. Cupola furnaces. H. G. C. FAIRWEATHER (Strico Gesellschaft fur Mettallurgie und Warmetechnik G.m.b.H.) Feb. 25, 1965 [No. 8143/65. Heading F4B. A cupola furnace comprises a shaft 1 with a gas offtake 2 above the burden level and a stack lid 8 a passage 4 enclosing a vibrating charging conveyer 5 being sealed from outside air by the lid 8 and a charge in the hopper 3. The passage 4 is sealed during tapping or running down of the furnace by a plate 7 connected to the lid 8, the latter opening when the former is closed. Charging is controlled by a charge-level device 6, each charge being deposited centrally of the furnace by the conveyer 5, while two to three charge loads are maintained with hopper 3.
