Abstract
1,256,424. Charging blast furnaces. N. I. SCHNEIDER. 10 March, 1969 [8 March, 1968], No. 12502/69. Heading F4B. Material to be charged to a high pressure blast furnace is fed through one of two lock chambers 4, provided with upper and lower gas seal flap valves 7, 8 respectively, through space 20 and passage 3 on to the top surface of a distributing bell 1 mounted in the top of the furnace. The bell 1 is suspended through a pin 9 and a cross-piece 10, from a pair of rods 11 which extend clear of the path taken by the material being charged, up into the space 20 where they are connected through a further cross-piece 13 to a reciprocable shaft 14. Guide sleeves 19 surrounding the rods 11 also extend between the furnace top and the space 20, to equalize the gas pressures therein. A rotary charge distributer of the type disclosed in Specification 1,256,425 may be provided in place of the passage 3.
