Abstract

109,701. Drummond, A. Nov. 25, 1916. Turning.-The crossslide B of a saddle A is provided with a pin b<2> by which it is moved against the resistance of a spring b<3> by a cam c<1> on a nut c mounted on a bolt a. A locking arm C is pivoted to the nut c and has a quadrant c<3> which moves between the stops c<4> on the nut against the resistance of springs c<5>, and a pin c<6> which engages a slot in the end of a pawl d pivoted to the nut and engaging a fixed ratchet wheel D. A single movement of the lever C releases, advances, and looks the slide in position; or releases, withdraws, and holds it in the withdrawn position. While the slide is held in the withdrawn position, the usual adjustment is made by a micrometer E, the end of which meets an anvil e on the saddle A, and so limits the forward movement. In a modification, the nut c is provided with a notched cam, and the handle is fixed to the nut.
