[Class 83 (iii).] In a die-stock, tap-wrench, &c. of the kind in which the chasers are mounted in contact with each other and are formed with coacting surfaces so inclined that lateral movement of one chaser causes corresponding movement of the other chasers towards and from the centre, a manually operable eccentric is provided in direct contact with an opening formed in an extension of the chaser-setting mechanism for the purpose of effecting a rapid opening of the chasers at any instant. The stock-body 1 receives the mutually coacting chasers 3 which are provided with leading teeth at each end so that they may be used for cutting either right or left hand threads on being reversed in the body. A setting member 5, Figs. 1 and 3, has a projection 6 engaging a recess in one of the chasers and is moved laterally by a screwed spindle 4 carrying a graduated handle 8. For quick release of the chasers, the spindle and member 5 are moved axially by an eccentric 12, actuated by a handle 13 and engaging an elongated opening 11 in an extension 9 of the setting mechanism. The screw-threads 4a, 4b on the spindle 4, which respectively engage the member 5 and the extension 9, are of opposite hand so that axial movement of the spindle in the extension 9 will not neutralize the movement of the member 5 on the spindle. The handle 13 may be retained in position by a spring-pressed ball 14 therein and a depression 15 in the body 1. The chasers may be locked in cutting position by a wedge 17, Fig. 1, actuated by a nut 18, and the set position is indicated by graduations 26 on the chasers co-operating with graduations 25 on a scale 23 which may be adjusted in the body 1 by means of an eccentric boss 20 on a rotatable milled nut. Alternatively a screw, lever, &c., may be provided for adjusting the scale 23. A housing 1a, Fig. 6, integral with the body 1 accommodates mutually coacting fingers 29 which form a work-guide. Adjustment is effected by a rack 28 on one finger and a pinion 27 on a hand-lever 24. A pin 30, axially slidable in the lever 24 by means of a nut 32 provides for locking the lever by engagement with a fixed cam 31. Recesses 33 in the fingers allow the guide to be used on work of large diameter, the sliding surfaces of the fingers being extended at 34 and the housing being recessed to receive the extensions. The body 1 may be provided with bosses for the reception of handles 2 or with ratchet teeth 36, Fig. 8, for co-operation with a pawl 37 mounted between plates 35 rotatable on the body and carrying the handles. The pawl 37 is doubleended to provide for rotation of the body in either direction.
