Sliding-jaw wrenches - In quick-adjustment wrenches of the class in which the movable and fixed jaws are held in their relative positions by means of a pinion on one jaw engaging a rack on the other jaw, the pinion being locked by means of a hand-operated spring - pressed dog or equivalent, the shank 2, with the fixed jaw 1 at one end, and a reduced portion 6 at the other to receive a tubular handgrip 7 secured by a nut 9, is provided with ratchet teeth 3 having their faces disposed angularly as shown, and adapted to be engaged by the ratchetwheel 13 mounted on a pivot 12 in the casing 11 of the movable jaw 10. This jaw is held in its adjusted position by the locking of the wheel by the end 15 of a pawl 14 pivoted at 16 to the casing and pressed into engagement by a spring 20, and a push-pin 18 is provided on the end of the pawl to disengage it and permit of rapid adjustment. A cover-plate is secured over the casing 11 of the movable jaw by screws 22.
