Abstract

1,096,835. Hammer mills. A. S. NEWELL. Feb. 24, 1966 [March 18, 1965], No. 8210/66. Heading B2A. A hammer mill for comminuting metal scrap comprises a casing having an inlet opening 18 and enclosing a hammer unit comprising hammers 28 pivotally mounted on axially-spaced rotary discs 27, the hammers co-operating with a comb-like anvil 34 provided at the lower side of the opening 18 and the comminuted scrap being thrown through a discharge passage 20 closed by a grid 21. The free end of each hammer which imparts the blows has welded thereto a surface covering (33), Fig. 4 (not shown.) of alloy steel.
