Abstract
1,096,669. Coin-freed mechanism. LOCKERBIE & WILKINSON (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. Nov. 30, 1966 [Dec. 4, 1965], No. 51555/65. Heading G4V. A coin-freed mechanism including a pair of jaws 40 pivotally mounted on an arm 19 arranged to be rocked by a member 17 to pivot the jaws and release a coin held therebetween, is characterized in that members 55 are adjustable mounted on the jaws whereby the mechanism is adapted to receive coins of different sizes. Fig. 2 shows the mechanism in an inverted position as applied to the drawer of a vending machine. The member 17 projects from the underside of the drawer. The arm 19 has enlarged ends 22, 26 carrying a spring- loaded rod 25 passing through bores therein. The rod 25 is normally urged to engage a cam piece 31 pivoted on the end 22 and position it in engagement with ears 24 on said end 22. The end 26 has lateral extensions 38 carrying the jaws 40. The jaws are pivoted at 39 and urged by springs 41 to position lugs 48 thereon in engagement with posts 44. The arm 19 is pivoted adjacent the end 26 about a transverse axis. In operation, movement of the drawer pivots the cam piece to project the rod 25 from the end 26 into the space between the jaws. Presence of a coin between the jaws limits movement of the rod 25 whereby the cam piece becomes fast with the arm. The member 17 then pivots the arm so that the lugs 48 strike the posts 45 to open the jaws and release the coin. The members 55 are slotted at 59 and adjustably mounted on the jaws by screws 63. The limbs 56, 57 are enlarged towards the coin slot to form a guide. Projections 61 limit the movement of an inserted coin. Fraud preventing.-The position of the rod 25 is adjusted by a set screw 34 to sense the thickness of an inserted coin.
