[Also in Divisions E1-2] A drawer 1 arranged for mounting in an aperture from which the drawer is withdrawable in either of two opposite directions comprises bolting or device 3 having an operative condition in which in use said device prevents withdrawal of the drawer from a closed position in one direction and an inoperative condition in which drawer withdrawal is unimpeded by said device, control means including a member 13 cooperable with a defining surface of the aperture for rendering the bolting device operative upon opening the drawer in said one direction from a closed position with the bolting device inoperative, whereby to prevent further opening in said one direction after the drawer is closed, said control means permitting return of the bolting device to the inoperative condition upon withdrawal of the drawer in the other direction and subsequent return of the drawer to the closed position. In the construction shown the drawer is slidably arranged in a shell 2, the walls of which shell define the aperture; the bolting device comprises a platform 5 pivotally mounted through a pivot 6 on the floor of the drawer 1 and attached to the underside of the platform 5 on one side of the pivot 6 is a magnet 7 which co-operates with a fixed magnet 8 on the drawer floor to hold the platform so that a projection 9 from the platform on the opposite side of the pivot 6 is held out of a slit 9 in the drawer floor. The control means includes a weight 11 suspended above the platform 5 on the projection 9 side of the pivot 6 by means of a rod 12 which is pivotally connected to an arm 14 of the control member. The control member has a second arm 13 and the two arms are pivoted together and to a casing 4 which encloses the weight and the bolting device. A spring 17 biases the arm 13 into engagement with the shell 2 in the closed position of the drawer and the arm 13 is so constructed that in this position it holds up the arm 14 and holds the weight 11 out of contact with the platform 5 so that the projection 9 is above the slit in the drawer floor; this enables the drawer to be pulled out of the shell to the right and when the drawer has been pulled out far enough so that the arm 13 no longer engages the shell, the two arms are pivoted clockwise by the weight 11 which engages the platform 5 and holds the platform with the projection 9 in a depressed position. Returning the drawer into the shell pivots the arm 13 relative to the arm 14 to a position shown in Fig. 6c but does not move the arm 14 or the weight 11 so that the platform 9 is held with the projection 9 depressed into the slit and hence the projection 9 abuts against a bar 20 of the shell if an attempt is made to withdraw the drawer to the right once more and prevents such withdrawal. The drawer can however be pulled out of the shell to the left and when this is done the arm 13 rotates counterclockwise under the urge of the spring 17 and when the drawer is once more pushed back into the shell the arm 13 is rotated by contact with the shell to its original position and the arm 14 is therefore rotated counterclockwise to raise the weight 11 and the platform 5 thus regains its initial position in which it is held by the two magnets. Complete withdrawal of the drawer to the right is prevented by a stop 19 on the shell. A modification is described in which the bolting device and the control means are positioned at the opposite end of the drawer to that shown with suitable re-positioning of the slit in the drawer floor and the bar 20, to operate the control member correctly the shell is provided with a rib which extends from the left hand end of the shell for part of its length.
