Abstract

1,033,542. Catch mechanisms. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. May 2, 1964, No. 18340/64. Heading E2A. A window catch mechanism for a slidable window comprises a hollow knob with a skirt portion 31 pivoted with respect to a mounting arrangement which is in turn fixable to a vehicle window, a catch member 5 pivoted with respect to the mounting arrangement at a position within the hollow knob offset from the pivot of the knob, the catch member lying partly within the knob, extending through an opening 35 in the skirt portion, and having a cam surface engaged by an end 43 of the opening 35 in the skirt portion of the knob, so that rotation of the knob pivots the catch member to move it further into or out of the knob. As shown the catch member in one embodiment is gravity loaded and is moved by rotation of the knob into or out of engagement with a stop 47 to prevent or allow sliding open of a window on which the mounting arrangement is fixed. In a second embodiment the member 5 is spring loaded to its lower position in engagement with the stop, and the member 5 and stop 47 have cam surfaces so that when the window is slid from an open to the closed position the member 5 which is in the lower position is made to ride over the stop 47 so that the window is automatically latched.
