Abstract

1,255,189. Window pivots; stop hinges. ARTHUR SHAW MFG. Ltd. 9 April, 1970 [9 Jan., 1969], No. 1273/69. Heading E2F. A hinge, for, e.g. a window, comprises two co-axial components pivotal about their common axis, one component, 1, Fig. 5, having two angularly spaced recesses 11 and 12, each recess being equidistant from the axis, the other component having a spring catch for engagement in either recess; the hinge carrying a shield manually movable to prevent such engagement. The shield, 14a, Fig. 5, may be coaxial with and slidable along component 1. When the shield covers the recesses the catch rides along the shield and engages a cam 27 to move the shield permitting re-engagement in a recess. Alternatively, the shield may be formed from a nylon plate 14, Fig. 2, coaxially mounted between the components, having a section 15 radially greater than and a section 16 radially less than the recesses, the section 15 having an ear 17 engageable in the recess 11. A handle 18 is provided. The recess 11, corresponding to a closed position of the window, being larger than the catch 7 to permit movement of the window; the recess 12 corresponding to a movement of 180‹ in the window. The catch may be pivoted or in the form of a bolt.
