Abstract

593,525. Hinges &c. BEATON & SON, Ltd., G., and YOUNG, F. C. May 31, 1945, No. 13693. [Class 65 (ii)] A concealed hinge for a motor vehicle door 20 comprises a bracket 12 for attachment to the standing pillar 10, a rod 19 or equivalent member mounted to slide in relation to the bracket, a spring 21 for holding the rod retracted, and a hinge plate 22 attached to the door, the hinge plate being pivoted to the outer end of the rod 19 and carrying a lug or lugs 23 arranged, on pivotal movement of the hinge plate 22 to open the door 20, to abut against the bracket 12 and withdraw the rod 19 from its retracted position. The hinge is characterised in that the rod 19 or equivalent member is mounted to slide in relation to the bracket 12 on an outwardly directed skew axis. The weight of the door is taken by the flat faces of lug 23. The bracket 12 is adapted for use with two hinge plates of opposite hands 22, 122, mounted on adjacent doors and cover 13 is fitted to the bracket 12.
