Class 27 A coin-freed mechanism for releasing turnstiles and other devices comprises a bolt 4 which, upon being moved manually towards a plunger 5, actuates the latter through a mechanical connection provided by an inserted coin and so releases the turnstile or other device, the coin in this effective position being supported on two pins 13 spaced apart horizontally by a distance just sufficient to prevent a coin of the correct denomination from falling between them. The bolt 4 is slidably mounted in a guide 1a and is urged into contact with a pawl 8, rigidly connected to an operating handle 2. by a spring 15. The plunger 5, which is also slidably mounted in a guide 1b and urged towards the bolt by a spring 11, is provided in its operative end with two clearance holes 5b co-operating with the pins 13 which are carried on an L-plate 6 screwed to a guide 1a. A coin-shoot 3 of size corresponding to the spacing of the pins 13 is mounted above the guides 1a, 1b. When a coin of correct value is inserted, it is supported on the pins and movement of the bolt 4 is transmitted to the plunger 5 so that a peg 12 thereon effects the release of the turnstile; continued movement of the turnstile, together with the plunger, after the bolt has reached the limit of its .normal travel, releases the coin so that it falls into a collecting box. If the mechanism is operated without the insertion of .a coin, the bolt 4 moves through a clearance slot 6a in the plate 6 and into a hole 5a in the plunger without effecting movement of the plunger. A guide plate 7 is provided to prevent coins, inserted during movement of the bolt, from jamming the mechanism. In order that the mechanism may be used with different value coins, the coin shoot 3 and the bracket 6 with the pins 13 are made interchangeable or adjustable, and, the guide plate 7 is made interchangeable.
