[Class 27] In coin-freed apparatus in which a coin in passing to the coin-controlled mechanism rolls along a counterbalanced rail and deflects the rail to cause an obturator to prevent a second coin from passing to the rail while the first is in it, the rail 5, Figs. 1 and 3, is carried by arms 4 pivoted at 3 and counterbalanced by a weight 8, the rail having a contact 15 which, when it is depressed by a coin, engages a contact 16 to energize an electromagnet 14. A pin 13 constituting the core of the magnet 14 is projected across the entry shoot 9 for the coins and holds back a second coin until the first has passed off the rail 5. The coins pass from the rail 5 to a pivoted bucket 12 which is depressed by two coins to close contacts 17, 18 and thereby effects the operation of the machine to deliver an article. In a modification, the obturator 13, Fig. 8, is formed by an arm 28 secured to the rotary pivot rod 3 of the rail. When the rail is depressed, the obturator 13 deflects a succeeding coin to an alternative path provided by a byepass 29. In a further modification, Fig. 5, the rail 5 is pivoted at its forward end 22 and each coin actuates a lever 23 to close contacts 17, 18. In a further form, the rail is mounted in the same way as a parallel ruler by being pivoted to the ends of parallel pivoted rods.
