Abstract
1,095,892. Testing wear and friction. WINTERSHALL A. G. Dec. 10, 1964, No.50431/64. Headings G1N and G1S. Apparatus for the investigation of wear, oxide layers and friction comprises a rotatable disc 10 and a tiltable frame 4 carrying a pin 3 which engages the surface of the disc. The pin 3 has a relatively large diameter cylindrical body 1 with, at least at one end, a cylindrical extension of smaller diameter and short in length. The pin is clamped in a frame 4 which is rotatable about an axis 4", the rotatable disc 10 being so mounted that its plane passes through axis 4". The pressure with which the pin engages the disc is controlled by a weight 7. The pin may be finely adjusted into engagement with the disc by a rod 8 and nut 8'. Lubricant may be applied to the disc by a tube 9" and collected from it through a conduit 9'. The measurement of wear may be made electrically by means of a circuit Fig. 2 (not shown) comprising a battery, meter and switch. The apparatus may also be used for the investigation of the oxide layers formed on the disc.
