Silver halide complex diffusion transfer process comprises bringing a material comprising an imagewise exposed silver halide layer into contact with an image receiving layer comprising development nuclei and/or substances capable of forming such nuclei in situ, in the presence of a silver halide complexing agent, developing with an aqueous alkali solution and separating the layers, at least one of said materials, or said materials inter se, containing, as developers a 3 - pyrazolldone and either gallic acid, pyrogallol, gentisic acid, glucose or furoin. The developing solution may contain an alkali hydroxide, phosphate or carbonate, a further developer, KBr, calcium sequestering agents or black toning agents. Image receiving sheet preferably comprises supported layer of water-permeable colloid or latex, (e. g. carboxymethyl cellulose or its chromium salt) development nuclei pigments, colloidal silica, preserving agent (e. g. a bisulphite, metabisulphite or aldehyde bisulphite), Na 2 SO 3 , silver halide complexing agent (e. g. hypo), or black toning agents. In an embodiment the light-sensitive layer may be overcoated with a layer of waterpermeable colloid, or the light-sensitive and receiving layers may be in one multi-layer material.
