Abstract

1,091,528. Window operating mechanism. TELEFLEX PRODUCTS Ltd. Aug. 18, 1964 [Aug. 26, 1963], No. 33680/63. Heading E2M. [Also in Division F2] An assembly for opening and closing hinged members such as windows or vents comprises a unilaterally flexible shain 11 having sufficient slackness around rivets 28 connecting the links 27, 27a to allow the chain to follow the arcuate course of the edge of the opening window. Portions (29, Fig. 4) of the links are bent over from the central plane and come into contact when the chain is straight to prevent the links hinging in one direction. In one embodiment (Fig. 1) the chain runs in a guide channel (4) and is driven by a sprocket wheel (15). The sprocket wheel is turned by means of a flexible metal cable via a worm and worm wheel arrangement and the operation can be manual or by means of an electric motor and a reduction gear. The flexible cable may drive more than one assembly. In another embodiment the sprocket is replaced by a drum carrying thereon a cable, a pull on the cable causing the drum to rotate and so extend or retract the chain 11. In other embodiments, (Figs. 11-13) the chain carries a driving dog (132, 154) which engages a flexible driving cable (136, 158). Some of the metal parts may be made of a plastic.
