Abstract

1451734 Vehicle sliding roofs KAROSSERIEWERKE WEINSBERG GmbH 19 Feb 1974 [19 Feb 1973] 7628/74 Heading B7B In a vehicle sliding roof assembly a follower 19 connected with a roof panel 5 is arranged to be propelled by driving means 13, 14 firstly with the panel in the direction of sliding movement and then transversely relative to the panel for actuating lifting devices which raise the panel into a roof opening. As shown in Fig. 1 operation of motor 13 rotates a threaded core of cable 14 so that a pin 15 in engagement therewith moves the follower 19 together with roof panel 5 in the forward direction. Subsequently pin 15 moves along transverse path 18 of the cable to carry follower along a cross member 12 secured to the roof panel. Lifting mechanisms including links 30 are privoted by rods 25 connected to the follower 19 to raise the rearward edge of panel 5. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, rods 25 are replaced by Bowden cables each having a rigid end piece 35 formed with a rack 38 for engagement with a toothed roller 7 in which rotates a threaded pin 9 depending from roof panel 5 which is lifted in transverse movement of follower 19. The roller 7 interfits in a slider 6 which engages with rail 4 of the roof opening. At the end of forward travel of the panel the end piece engages a fixed stop 39 which deflects the rack into engagement with the teeth on roller 7. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the pin 15 engages a slot 50 in a pivoted arm 42 which is linked to rods 43, 44 having upturned end portions 48 which make contact with inclined surfaces 49 at the rear edge of the roof panel which is lifted when pin 15 passes along portion 18 of cable 14. A limit switch may cut off motor 13 in the fully closed position of the panel. However, the switch may be overridden so that the roof panel continues to rise leaving a ventilating gap between the rear edge of the panel and the fixed roof. The driving cable 14 may alternatively take the form of a rope or chain.
