Abstract
1,091,451. Ignition systems. L. BOWDEN. March 22, 1965 [April 6, 1964), No. 14134/64. Heading F1B. In a transistorized ignition system, a coil or transformer L1, L3, L4 having a substantially smaller time constant and operating at lower energy levels than the conventional ignition coil, is used to produce the base drive pattern for a push pull pair of transistors having an output transformer L6, L7, L8 suitable for connection to a conventional type of ignition coil L12, L13. The system may have a feedback winding L2 in series with the collector of the first transistor and a feedback winding L5 in series with the collector of the second transistor. A further winding may be connected via a suitable phase correcting network R2, C2 to a winding on the output transformer core. The system may be resonant at the natural frequency of the ignition coil secondary circuit.
