Abstract

In an ingnition system energization of the ignition coil 3a, 3b is obtained, at least in part, from an additional induction coil 1 as a consequence of an interruption of current therein by a semi-conductor switch 2, the induction coil being in one leg of a parallel circuit in series with the semi-conductor switch, another leg of which circuit contains the primary windings 3a of the ignition coil. The system includes means for turning off the switch 2 so as to permit a capacitor 4 to be charged and means for turning on the switch when ignition is required.
