Abstract
1,076,540. Ignition systems. MOTOROLA Inc. Sept.8, 1965 [Sept. 21, 1964; Nov. 9, 1964], No. 38382/65. Heading F1B. In an ignition system comprising an ignition coil 11 coupled through a current gate 16 to a capacitor 14, which is charged by a charging circuit and is discharged when a firing circuit renders the current gate conductive, the secondary winding 24 of a transformer of the firing circuit is coupled to the current gate, a switch 18 is connected across a source of potential in series with the primary winding 19 of the transformer to cause a pulse in the secondary winding to actuate the current gate, and the charging circuit for the capacitor includes a further transformer 31 to which current is supplied upon actuation of the current gate and a rectifier 38 which applies a voltage from the transformer to the capacitor 14 for charging the same. The current gate may consist of a semi-conductor controlled rectifier. The further transformer may have a secondary winding 35 in which a voltage is developed which acts to cut-off the supply of current to the transformer to produce a voltage pulse therein and another secondary winding 37 which applies the voltage pulse to the capacitor through the rectifier.
