Abstract

1,184,293. Ignition systems. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. May 8, 1968 [May 9, 1967], No. 21676/68. Heading F1B. An ignition system comprises a charging coil energizable by relative movement of the coil and a magnet system 8 effected by an internal combustion engine and an ignition capacitor 1 adapted to be charged by a first winding 3 of the charging coil and discharged by the switching path of a contactless controllable electronic switch 12 via a primary winding 10 of an ignition transformer 11. A secondary winding 13 of the transformer is adapted to be connected to at least one spark plug 14. The charging coil has a separate second winding 15 adapted to provide a control voltage of substantially opposite phase to the voltage on the first winding for controlling the electronic switch, the first and second windings being wound on a single core. As shown a controllable semi-conductor rectifier is employed as the electronic switch. Correspondingly operating thermionic valves such as thyratrons are also suitable for this purpose.
