Abstract
1450854 High frequency ignition systems TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CO 19 June 1974 [10 Aug 1973] 27103/74 Heading F1B An ignition system for an internal combustion engine comprises an inverter including a transformer 11 having a secondary winding 12 for supplying a continuous-wave high frequency spark signal output only during controlled sparking intervals, a primary winding 16 with at least one transistor 33, 34 connected in circuit therewith and a feedback winding 17 connected to the transistor to form an oscillator having a predetermined load frequency during the spark intervals, the load frequency being substantially different from a harmonic frequency of the fundamental resonant frequency of the inverter secondary winding output circuit and a saturable core inductor means 85 connected in circuit with the feedback winding for causing the no load frequency of the oscillator to be substantially equal to the harmonic frequency. The system further comprises an oscillator control winding 18 on the transformer and means (transistor 64) controlled by the engine for connecting a loading circuit to the control winding and for applying a D.C. bias thereto between the sparking intervals, whereby removal of the D.C. bias and the control winding load causes instantaneous starting of the oscillation.
