A holder for a cultivating tool comprises a bracket 11 adapted to be secured to a cultivator tool bar 10, a spring- biased, pivoted cam 32; and a pivoted shank holder 20 incorporating a cam engaging roller 30 The spring bias comprises a U shaped bolt 41 having a spring 43 on each limb In operation when the tool encounters an obstacle the tool and its holder pivot against the force of the springs 43 over ahump portion of the cam to a fully released position (Fig. 3 not shown). After the obstacle has been passed the tool is. re turned to its normal working position by spring pressure. The compression of the springs is adjustable by varying the position of screws 49.
