Lathes. - Screw - cutting lathes of the type in which the tool is carried by a handlever h on a sliding and rocking bar f have the depth of cut limited by a cam p splined on a shaft o and engaged by an adjustable abutment r on an arm q on the bar. The shaft o has a clutch connexion with a fixed collar permitting step-bystep adjustment by a hand-wheel 2. A casing 4 is slotted so that an indicating-sleeve on the shaft may be read to determine when the desired depth for a particular thread has been reached, for example by the number corresponding to the threads per inch appearing in the aperture. A yoke t causes the cam to travel with the bar f. The arm carrying the nut section d, Fig. 4, is in two parts g, u with a spring connexion v to allow of the adjustment for depth of cut without affecting the engagement of the nut with the master screw. A spring m returns the bar upon disengagement of the nut d.
