154,547. Bechler, A. April 9, 1918, [Convention date]. Turning.-A lathe has an automatic stop mechanism for the traversing feed set by means of a scale. The chain-driven lead-screw a comprises a clutch portion b, which may be disengaged by means of a projection c on a cursor d adjustable on a bar f carried by the tool carriage. A scale e is so fixed to the lathe bed that the clutch is disengaged when the cursor indicates zero on the scale. Thus from any position of the carriage any desired traversing-feed may be obtained by fixing the cursor at the required distance on the scale. In a modification, the scale slides in guides on the lathe bed and carries a projection which disengages the clutch when a hook carried by the carriage contacts with an adjustable cursor on the scale. In a further modification, the clutch b is dispensed with, and a cursor sliding on a fixed scale actuates a device to disengage the tool carriage from the lead-screw at the required point.
