Abstract

103,554. Kesterton, C. A., and Kesterton, S. G. March 16, 1916. Lathes.-Machines for cutting cartridge cases &c. to length are provided with automatic means whereby, once cutting has started, the work cannot be removed from the machine without finishing completely to length. The length is gauged by a projection 6 on the work-holder 4 and an adjustable stop 7. A bar a, secured to the bed at a<2>, a<3> and positively adjustable at e, carries levers h, i linked at g. In the initial position, the lever h is held against a stop n<2> by the spring n, and the pawl j<2> is disengaged. As the work-holder is fed forward, the pawl j<3> wipes over the nose i<4> of the lever i, and this, in conjunction with the stop y, prevents retraction of the work-holder until the projection 6 has made contact with the stop 7, at which time an adjustable stop x is set to rock the levers sufficiently to engage the pawl j<2> and notch k and maintain the nose i<4> clear of the pawl j<3>. Towards the close of the return movement, a spring m trips the pawl j<2>, and the spring n re. coils the mechanism.
