Abstract

1,089,412. Developing electro-static images. ARLSIDE Ltd. May 25, 1966 [June 2, 1965], No.23539/65. Heading G2H. In a cascade developing apparatus an electrostatic latent image on a drum 1 is developed by developer discharged from a hopper 10 under the control of a shutter 12 opened by an electromagnet 11 against the action of a spring (36) Fig. 4 (not shown). A rotary elevator (7), driven by a shaft 8 has spaced apart scoops (9) which return unused developer to the hopper 10, Fig. 1. A spreader 16, which may be a screw oppositely threaded from its centre outwards, distributes developer across a plate 15. A device 17 dispenses toner to replenish that used in development. The device may have an agitator (20) Fig. 3 (not shown) above a dimpled metering roller (19) and a brush (22) which produces a cloud of powder (24).
