Abstract
108,888. Ryland, C. F. Aug. 23, 1916. Accessories.-Eye-guards or shields are clipped or otherwise fitted to a cap or helmet. A shaped portion secured to the underside of the peak or brim coacts with a separate shield portion or portions, or alternatively is shaped to form the shield c itself, as in Fig. 1, for which purpose sockets d<2> upon the shield are adapted to slide upon arms d<1> so secured to the hat that the curved edge c<1> of the shield hangs at some distance from the face, but fits closely to the helmet &c. In all forms the outer edge c<2> is constructed with a groove m, in order to carry away dust and to oppose a smooth surface to the face. Fig. 4 is typical of constructions having a flat portion a secured to the under surface of the brim, &c., by split pins or rings passing through eyelets b, and a depending flat portion c, cut as before to suit the nose, connected to the brim portion by rings e passing through eyelets d, f and acting as hinges. The depending portion may be bowed to conform to the face, either by the provision of a convex edge g upon the brim portion, or preferably by giving it a similar edge c', and it may be held by a central catch. According to modifications the depending part is made in two overlapping sections, which may be turned up against the brim portion when not in use, pressbutton fastenings being provided.
