Abstract

539,577. Helmets. BYSON APPLIANCE CO., Ltd., and HARRISON, E. Dec. 4, 1940, No. 17284. [Class 63] In a protective helmet, the head-engaging part comprises a series of resilient pads, for example, of sponge rubber, located in side by side or end to end pockets in a fabric carrier of annular form. A strip of fabric is folded and stitched at intervals of about 3 inches to form pockets in which are inserted pads 7. The strip is first coated with material resistant to war gases, and may have extensions 10 carrying the usual draw cord. Ear flaps 14a are carried in fabric portions secured to the strip of fabic, and may be folded into the helmet when not required. The helmet 1 may be a plastic moulding. The head engaging portion is supported on a spider 3.
