Class 63 A soft hat 10 has one or more strips 11, 13 of elastic material attached while stretched to its central crown portion so that contraction causes the fabric of the crown to pucker along the strip. The strip may be sewn inside or outside the crown and extend from edge to edge of the crown. A similar elastic strip may extend around the edge and have the material of the crown doubled over it. The hat may be a single piece of fabric knitted to shape without cutting or joining, other than linking two edges together.
