Abstract

1,088,532. Photographic colour coupler compositions. FUJI SHASHIN FILM KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Jan. 6, 1965 [Jan. 6, 1964], No. 659/65. Heading G2C. Fog is inhibited during colour development of silver halide emulsions using a p-phenylenediamine derivative, by incorporating into the emulsion (a) a coloured coupler which is a 1-naphthol or a monocyclic, monohydric phenol having an aryl-azo substituent in the 4-position with respect to the hydroxyl group, and (b) a colourless coupler which is a 1 -naphthol or phenol having no substituent in the 4-position with respect to the phenolic hydroxyl group in said 1-naphthol or phenol but having a water solubilizing group other than said phenolic hydroxyl group in the molecule. The emulsion may further contain, as a masking control agent, (c) a 1-naphthol or a phenol having a substituent in the 4-position. Specified coloured couplers are those wherein the 4-substituent is -N=N-R 1 wherein R 1 is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl or naphthyl group, and wherein the hydroxyl substituted ring is optionally substituted by a halogen, alkyl, acylamido, carbamyl or sulphonic acid group. Compounds (b) and (c) may also be substituted by these latter groups, or, in (c), by -SR 1 where R 1 is as above.
