Abstract

1,086,751. Moulding buttons &c. S. EMSIG, J. EMSIG, and J. R. SUCHER, [trading as EMSU CO.]. Jan. 13, 1965, No. 1545/65. Heading B5A. A plurality of articles, e.g. buttons, are moulded by heat and pressure between two relatively movable mould halves 21 and 22, a stretchable film 34 and a porous sheet 35, of e.g. paper or fabric, being interposed between mould half 21 and the working material 33 (a liquid polyester resin). Closure of the moulds forces the working material, the film, and the porous sheet into the cavities 40, the porous sheet acting as a duct to remove any trapped air, this facilitating an accurate reproduction of each mould cavity. The film and sheet are subsequently removed from the finished article. The porous sheet may be ruptured during the process and may, in fact, comprise discrete areas, e.g. material rather than a continuous sheet. As shown in the Figure, a resilient layer 30 of e.g. cardboard and a liner 31, preferably carrying a release agent, may be interposed between non-cavitied mould half 22 and the working material.
