108,615. Grocott, F. J. Nov. 24, 1916. Crucible furnaces.-For the supply of steam to generate a combustible gas from the fuel within the furnace, water is supplied to trough-shaped channels forming fire-bars, or may be supplied directly to the furnace at the lowest zone, or both methods mav be employed together. Heated air also is supplied at a single level or zone above the fire-bars. As shown, f and g are the troughshaped fire-bars which project at the front of the furnace to receive water from a drip pipe. Air, which may be mixed with steam, is supplied beneath the grate bv the passages l and m. Air also is supplied through the passage o and vertical communicating passages, and delivered to the fire at s.
