Abstract
1,083,932. Self-coiling cables. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. March 10, 1966 [May 7, 1965], No. 19333/65. Heading H1A. A flexible, extensible cable of spiral configuration comprises at least one conductor surrounded by a sheath of a copolymer of ethylene with up to 30% by weight of the copolymer of an olefinically unsaturated aliphatic comonomer. In one of the examples given the copolymer used is of ethylene with 12% by weight of vinyl acetate. In a process for producing such a cable the sheathed conductors are wound round a mandrel, heated to above the softening point of the copolymer, and then cooled whilst still formed in a spiral round the mandrel.
