Abstract
1,083,861. Laundry presses. ISAAC BRAITHWAITE & SON ENGINEERS Ltd. July 29, 1965 [May 1, 1964], No. 18274/64. Heading D1A. [Also in Division F2] In a laundry press having a lower stationary back 2 and an upper pressing head 8 carried on a pivoted arm 14 which is first moved downwardly by a pneumatic cylinder 32 acting on a toggle linkage 36, 38, final pressure then being applied by a pneumatic cylinder 48 through links 36, 38, a guard device in the form of a rod 62 encircling the head is arranged so that if it contacts the operators arm or other part of his body during the descent of the head it operates means to cut of the power and stop the press. As shewn, the guard 62 is carried on two members 66, 66' which are biassed by springs 84, 84' to normally hold valve members 82, 82' in the pnematic control circuit of the press closed. On lifting or tilting of the guard 62 one or both of these valves are opened to supply compressed air to acuate a valve 106 to cut off the supply to cylinder 32. The head 8 is raised by spring 134 to its upper position, the cylinders 32 and 48 exhausting through valves 114, 130.
