675,692. Fluid-pressure presses. EGGENSCHWILER, H. March 21, 1950 [March 21, 1949], No. 7004/50. Class 122(iii) [Also in Group VIII] A press comprises a working table to which a bonnet, connected to a source of compressed gas, may be secured by a locking mechanism, both vertical movement of the bonnet into open and closed positions and automatic engagement and disengagement of the locking mechanism being effected by piston devices. In the. operation of the apparatus described, assuming the bonnet 4 open, pressure fluid within lifting cylinder 17, Fig. 3, is discharged so that pistons 19 are lowered and thus also the bonnet which is supported through arms 25 on upper steps of slide rods 22: when a rubber, strip 5, Fig. 7 (not shown), contacts a rubber carpet or an auxiliary plate overlying the work on the table 3, its lip 9 is pushed upwardly until hermetic sealing over the entire surface of the strip is achieved: upon final downward movement of the pistons 19; springs 29 are distended and arms 32, crossshafts 33, longitudinal shafts 37 and links 30 are moved so that end and longitudinal locking stirrups 35 attain vertical position in which their inserts 36 are synchronously engaged by adjustable set screws 42 carried on levers 63 and 40 which are rocked by coaction of rollers 43, 43, carried thereon with cams 62 and 44 which are rotated by movement of shafts 55 and 48 actuated by similar cylinder and piston devices 54 and 46, 47 which may be pneumatically or hydraulically operated and controlled by a single control device. The press may be heated electrically, as by means of screened elements 65, or by steam coils or a heating plate below the table. Cells formed between inner and outer walls of the bonnet by reinforcing ribs may be filled with lagging material such as glass wool.
